Emission Nebulae
Emission nebulae are huge clouds of gas and dust. Energy from nearby stars strikes the gases and causes them to glow. Emission nebulae are the birthplaces of new stars. |
|
Other Nebulae
Other types of nebulae include reflection, dark, and planetary nebulae. Reflection nebulae are dust clouds which reflect the light from nearby bright stars. Dark nebulae are dust areas thick enough to completely block out the light from behind. Planetary nebulae are the remnants of stars which have collapsed and died. |

Galaxies and Star Clusters
Galaxies are enormous communities of stars (sometimes trillions of them), gas, and dust. Star clusters are groups of hundreds or thousands of stars. They are bound together by gravity, but are smaller than galaxies. All are different, and all have a beauty to them. |

Solar System Objects
Objects within our "cosmic neighborhood" include our Sun and Moon, and planets and their moons. Comets reside in the regions beyond planet Neptune, periodically swinging in to visit the inner solar system. The results of these visits are sometimes spectacular. |

Thank you for stopping by.
Contrary to some beliefs, space is not an "empty vacuum". There is an amazing number of objects, processes, and sometimes-violent actions taking place out there. I've developed a passion for recording and learning about these phenomena, and I am excited to share them with you. Enjoy your visit! |
